Lockdown may have brought bars and pubs to a close, but that didn’t stop one woman from celebrating her birthday in style. Amy Morgan had originally planned a weekend away to Dublin for her 23rd birthday, but the trip was cancelled amid the coronavirus pandemic. However, she was determined not to let this spoil her special day. Instead, Amy decided to stage a bar crawl inside her family home in Leeds –making each room into one of her favourite nighttime spots. The savvy 23-year-old enlisted the help of her parents and younger sister, Poppy, to transform the house for the celebration. The family really went the extra mile, too. Not only did they decorate the house, but they also played blow-up saxophones as Amy ‘entered’ the first bar – while her dad acted as a bouncer, checking her ID and giving her a wristband. Club flyers were stuck around the house and on the front door, to signal the name of each ‘bar’.

The extravaganza started with a bottomless brunch at ‘Manahatta’, aka the living room, before moving on to ‘Bar Fibre’ in the courtyard outside. Amy then visited ‘Dirty Martini’ where her dad served up lockdown cocktails aptly named Pornstar Quarantine, Pina Corona and Long Isolation Iced Tea. The evening finished at ‘Pop World’ with Amy’s dad as the DJ, along with a virtual party and quiz with her friends. What’s more, her grandparents even popped by for the occasion, while maintaining social distancing measures in the garden, of course. Amy said: ‘I always do a bottomless brunch for my birthday and see where the afternoon day-drinking takes us, usually Dirty Martini and Fibre 2-4-1. ‘My mum suggested the Leeds bar crawl and we all helped to create it. ‘At some points I actually felt like I was out in Leeds with my family, they had done such a good job.’

‘My grandparents were counting the beat with each other to make sure they were in time, it was my favourite part. ‘I might have had a lockdown birthday, but my family made it one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had. It’s one I definitely won’t forget.’
